New grants for community and voluntary groups in Neath Port Talbot
A new small grants scheme that will give much needed financial help to community and voluntary groups in Neath Port Talbot will be launched today [Wednesday 31 August, 2005] by Minister for Social Justice and Regeneration, Edwina Hart. As part of the Community Facilities and Activities Programme (CFAP) Mrs Hart awarded £100,000 per year for the next three years to the Neath Port Talbot County Voluntary Service Community Development Fund. Local groups needing relatively small amounts of financial support will be able to access funds in the scheme rather than apply directly to the Welsh Assembly Government for help.
Mrs Hart said: 'We value our sense of community spirit in Wales and this is well illustrated by the number of community and voluntary organisations that provide invaluable services in Wales. 'This money will enrich the lives of residents and communities throughout the County Borough by helping in small but important ways. We've approved more than £1m of funding for substantial projects in Neath Port Talbot as part of the CFAP scheme so far, such as £100,000 awarded last October for the community centre at St Mary's Church in Glynneath. This new small grants scheme will allow people locally to benefit with essential work on small projects. There are no restrictions as to the types of award given and I encourage those in need of funding to approach the County Voluntary Service which, after all, is there for advice as well as financial help.'
