ruralnet|uk are pleased to confirm that Peter Bradley, a member of the Affordable Rural Housing Commission is to chair the ruralnet|2006 conference anti-panel session.
The former MP for The Wrekin (1997 – 2005) was one of the rural community’s most influential advocates in Parliament, first as Chair of the Rural Group of Labour MPs, and then as a Parliamentary Private Secretary at Defra.
During the conference session, Peter will be facilitating discussion on the housing issues that effect people living in rural areas including response to the recent report from the Affordable Rural Housing Commission. Breaking the usual panel session format, panellists James Paice MP, Moira Constable, CEO, Rural Housing Trust and John Mills, Rural Policy Director, Defra will be asking the audience the questions.
Peter Bradley said,
"There is a broad consensus that the critical shortage of affordable housing presents the most serious current challenge to rural communities. But out there in the villages and market towns, alongside the problems, some really innovative solutions are being applied. This session presents an invaluable opportunity not just to share concerns, but also to spread best practice and at the same time educate the experts on the panel about what's needed and what works in the countryside. I'm really looking forward to it."
The rural housing anti-panel session will be part of a two-day event held at Center Parcs in Sherwood Forest Nottinghamshire on 11-12 October 2006. The overall theme for the event is ‘Exploiting Your Rural Capital’ and will explore the role rural assets play in sustaining a healthy rural economy.
